On September 28th, Minnesota Leather Pride hosted its Rush event at The Saloon from 2-5pm. Set up was communicated to participating groups to start at 1:30. Many groups arrived earlier to assist, making the process smooth and easy. By 2 pm, most groups were ready to receive the folk.
Around 15 leather and kink-related clubs and groups attended. They had table displays, information, and club representatives ready to share all the wonderful work they do. The event had steady foot traffic from attendees of all experience levels in the leather and kink communities. We saw people meet friends, network, collect club information to share, and support the community. Many checked out some of the newer groups in attendance.
Twin Cities Spectrum also used the Rush event to hold a Food Drive. Many folks generously donated items for The Aliveness Project’s food shelf and kitchen. After the final count, Twin Cities Spectrum is proud to say that 150 pounds of food were donated! They thank those who were able to contribute.
Atons introduced the Leather Closet, an initiative that promotes local leather culture by donating “gifted leather”—including vests, chaps, and pants—to newcomers. This effort helps reduce barriers for those entering the leather space. The Closet also shares resources on leather care, ensuring recipients can maintain their new gear.
When I asked the Atons how the Closet was received at the Rush, Full Member Gavin, who coordinates the Closet, said, “It went well! Folks went home with a vest, chaps, and a bar shirt. There was strong engagement and excitement.”
Minnesota Leather Pride would like to thank all those who made this event happen and a success. If you are interested in participating in events like these or learning more about Minnesota Leather Pride, please contact us at info@mnleatherpride.org.
